A few weeks ago I was on my way to an early morning photo shoot when I happened to drive across the Percy Priest Dam and came upon a stunning and bright sunrise. I seriously debated with turning around to capture the moment since I was already behind schedule, but I couldn’t resist the temptation. The area I pulled into (a dam overlook on Bell Rd) is clearly popular, several benches and a trail ran from the parking lot. I imagine it could get crowded during warmer days as it’s a great spot to watch the sunrise.
The J Percy Priest Lake was built in 1967 to control flooding on the Cumberland River, and the resulting lake is roughly 14,000 acres. The surrounding areas of the lake are home to 11 day use parks, 3 camp grounds, and numerous marinas.
