The bane of crafters everywhere or a blessing in disguise? I will admit love glitter, the sparkle reminds me of the springtime, of renewed hope. During spring the sun shines, the water shimmers, very much like glitter. I don’t have a lot of time for crafts, but I always have nonstop ideas running through my head, and multiple bookshelves devoted to craft supplies. I love getting to pull out those little tubes of sparkles, and now they offer an amazing selection of colors to use. I definitely don’t remember the neon colors when I was a kid. The only downside is the clean up, weeks after taking these photos I still run across random shiny bits of glitter dotting my dining room floor.
I needed some basic colorful backgrounds for another project I’m working on and the idea to photograph my hordes of glitter came to mind. I googled and realized I had lots of competition, I guess I’m not the only one with a love for glitter. I wanted to focus on not only the bright colors, but also the textures. It was a pretty simple set up, I wanted something quick and simple so I used a plain white sheet of paper as the background. Made clean up a breeze and I was able to switch colors fairly quickly. I hand-held the camera, and used natural lighting, as I said quick and easy. I shot several photos from each angle and imported the images into Adobe Photoshop Elements. Quick work with the levels and done.
I have to say I am in love with the neon colors. They came out so bright and shiny I was surprised I was able to capture the colors so accurately.
This is one of my favorites, my daughter was helping with this little project, and we were amazed at all the colors this glitter produced depending on the angle of light.
These photos are available on variety of products on Zazzle.
Next week we are back with some urban exploration, A Tale of Arches at Mission Garden.
